In 2003, leading national security scholars created the Journal of National Security Law & Policy (JNSLP) with support from the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Law and National Security.
In 2009, the Syracuse University Institute for Security Policy and Law (originally, the Institute for National Security and Counterterrorism) joined the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law as co-sponsor of JNSLP. In 2012, Georgetown Law became co-publishers of the journal along with Syracuse. The journal’s mission is to publish rigorous analysis about the greatest security challenges facing the nation and to contribute to the formulation of fair, credible solutions that balance the need for both liberty and security.
Unlike most law journals, JNSLP is peer-reviewed—the world’s only peer-reviewed journal devoted exclusively to security law and policy issues such as counterterrorism, cybersecurity, targeted killing, autonomous weapons, international humanitarian law, and domestic terrorism.
Reviewers include distinguished members of the journal’s editorial board; law professors; academics from other disciplines; and members of the military, intelligence, law enforcement, and civil liberties communities.
