This webinar is the second of a four part series.

While many victims and survivors may find the experience of sharing their views and perspectives on future justice initiatives through a consultation process to be empowering, it can also be retraumatizing and trigger other forms of severe psychological distress that ultimately undermine the consultation process and even the justice mechanisms that are eventually adopted. Nevertheless, as this session explored, there are concrete steps that those conducting consultations can take to mitigate against this risk at each stage of the process. This session explored how effective, trauma-informed, and trauma-responsive victim and survivor consultation can go beyond a “do no harm” standard by giving victims and survivors a safe space to share their voice and assert their agency. Justin Hett, a clinical psychologist at CVT with expertise and over 15 years experience working with traumatized individuals and communities, shared practical strategies for ensuring trauma-sensitivity in all interactions with victims and survivors.
