This webinar is the first of a four part series, introducing the Center’s new publication: “Victim and Survivor Consultation Protocol: A tool for policy-makers” by Sarah McIntosh and Anna Cave.

Using concrete examples from real-world case studies, the opening session of this webinar series spotlighted the perspectives of two survivor advocates on the importance of consultation as a critical part of the policy-making process and as one component of meaningful victim participation. It highlighted where victim and survivor consultation has and has not been effective and meaningful, where it has been entirely absent from the policymaking process, and where it has built up expectations that cannot be met. This opening session also highlighted common challenges encountered when striving to incorporate victim and survivor consultation into policymaking and decision-making and how to overcome these challenges through four interconnected and mutually reinforcing principles with attendant best practices.

Speakers: Sarah McIntosh (CNS), with welcoming remarks from Anna Cave (CNS) and pre-recorded remarks from Majorie Jobson (INOVAS) and Priscilla Yagu Shalom Ciesay (INOVAS).
