Bernarda Carrera Herrera

Bernarda Carrera Herrera is a Research Assistant at the Center on National Security at Georgetown University Law Center. She earned an LL.M. in International Legal Studies, graduating with Distinction, from Georgetown University Law Center. She holds magna cum laude degrees in Law and International Relations from Universidad San Francisco de Quito and is admitted to practice law in Ecuador.
Prior to joining Georgetown, Bernarda served as a Generalist Field Officer with the International Committee of the Red Cross in Peru, where she worked on humanitarian protection issues and engagement with civilian and military authorities. She also served as a Law Clerk to the Vice President of the Constitutional Court of Ecuador, conducting legal research and drafting decisions on constitutional and international law matters.
At the Center on National Security, Bernarda supports research on international humanitarian law, civilian protection, armed conflict, and national security issues. Her academic and professional interests include international humanitarian law, national security law, international criminal law, and the legal regulation of armed conflict.
